Weighted across 346,487 occupied homes. The spread inside the state is the point: Star is highest on mains at 79%, and Downey has the largest propane share at 56%. A state figure describes neither.

The two arrangements, and why the difference is not cosmetic

Of the 30 towns we route in here, 11 are mostly on mains gas, 8 have a substantial propane share, 7 are split between the two and 4 use very little gas of any kind.

On a mains connection, 49 CFR § 192.3 ends the regulated service line at "the outlet of the customer meter or at the connection to a customer’s piping, whichever is further downstream" — so part of the system is the operator’s. On propane there is no service line and no meter boundary, and the whole installation is the property owner’s.

Idaho licenses are issued by the Idaho State Plumbing Board, Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses, which publishes a public search you can use before work begins.

Gas work is separately permitted and separately licensed in most jurisdictions, so ask specifically about gas rather than plumbing in general.
